Planning meeting for PQG 2027 Quilt Show will be held at Tryon Library, 1200 Langley Ave., Pensacola from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm.

The meetings will be held in Meeting Room A. Please note that that meetings will be held on Tuesdays (except months with holidays). We will have the room open and available at 4:30. Sharon will be there early if anyone has questions or suggestions for the quilt show. This is also a time that committees can meet if they desire to do so before the meeting.

SOS (Share Our Skills): English Paper Piecing (EPP) for Beginners (Thursday, November 12, 2026)

Join Pam White and Judy Walker for this basic introduction to English Paper Piecing, commonly known as EPP. You will learn some of the history, the most common tools, and best sources for ideas, patterns and instructions. We will start with making one-inch hexagons, a favorite because you can do a lot with hexagons and this size is just right—not tiny and not too big—even with the tiniest scraps. This shape is a great one to start with: it nests together easily; and because some of the sides are bias, it's very forgiving when joining. And if you're interested, amazing patterns can be achieved with fussy cutting.
We will have the paper pieces for you to use, plus a great variety of small fabric pieces and leftovers to make a small quilt top that can be finished as a small mug-rug quilt. And if you L-O-V-E making hexies, you can keep going until you have enough ready to make a larger quilt.

FYI: neither Pam or Judy have found the need for using glue; a single Clover clip is very handy with the initial basting. A hole in the paper pieces and a crochet hook or similar implement make removing the EPP pieces very simple.

Supply List
fabric pieces for hexies—at least 3 inches square
2 squares of fabric for background and backing, 6.5 inches to 7 inches
1 piece batting, 6.5 inches square
basics for hand-sewing: scissors, needle, thread
1 or 2 sewing clips (or a glue stick if you would care to try that)

PQG provides irons and ironing boards, cutting mats, rulers, and a few rotary cutters.
The bank is on the north side of Creighton, just east of Davis Highway. Enter from the back of the building, not the front. Plenty of parking behind the bank; turn right after you enter the bank parking lot and drive around to the north side of the building.
Bring a snack or lunch plus whatever beverage you choose. There's no access to a kitchen or fridge. There are fast-food choices nearby but who wants to drive somewhere—and miss out on more sewing!

SOS (Share Our Skills): Let's Talk Quilts (Thursday, December 10, 2026)

By this date in December, registration for our 2027 quilt show will be closed and we might all be focused on finishing our show quilts. This is a good time to get tips—or even a pair of extra hands—to make sure you're headed in the right direction. Or maybe you simply want some companionship!
         Is there something you want help with? A refresher on how to calculate binding? Whether a quilt could use a little more quilting? How to make a quilt label? This SOS day will be devoted mostly to finishing techniques. We will focus on the topics you request.
          Maybe you only need a few minutes to confirm your plan of action; maybe you would like help with every step of binding—or something else. Maybe you only want a refresher on making perfect corner turns in your binding—maybe you don't know about "corner turns" yet! Perhaps you are wavering about the fabric for the quilt back. Send Judy Walker text or email describing what you want to address and we'll do our best to provide the help you seek.
          And since it's holiday time, what if we have a cookie bonanza and each bring a batch of our favorite cookies—enough to share and some to take home. So, perhaps you'll decide to simply bring your hand-sewing and join the festivity!

"Under the Mistletoe" by Diane D. Vandiver (Wednesday, January 27, 2027)

Diane D. Vandiver https://www.butterflythreadsquilting.com/ has published two books, dozens of patterns, and created many original templates. She also designs fabric for Blank Quilting Fabrics and travels extensively teaching classes and workshops.

In this workshop, you will learn special techniques for paper piecing and sewing curves so you can achieve excellent results every time. Diane will show you that curves are NOT scary. You will learn basic flip and sew paper piecing as well as template sewing.

There is a required $15 pattern purchase, which is available in paper or as a digital download at https://www.butterflythreadsquilting.com/butterfly-threads-quilting-CjGVY/p/under-the-misteltoe. There will be an optional template set you can purchase on site for $25. Diane will have a set you can try to see if you like them before purchasing. For those that prefer the freezer paper method, she will also teach the pattern that way. The workshop is suitable for confident beginners through advanced quilters and you will be working on the Table Runner version.

PQG Members - $65.00

The handouts are included, but a pattern purchase is required.

REFUND POLICY: Should a pre-registered member become unable to attend a workshop, the member has the responsibility to notify the workshop chairperson immediately. The workshop chairperson shall make every effort to find a substitute from the wait list of other members. If no other member (or no wait list) is available, the member has the option of finding a replacement. The pre-registered fee will be refunded only if a paid replacement is substituted.

Adults: $10 per day; $15 for a two-day pass
