The 2027 quilt show will feature two quilt show special exhibits in addition to the endcap displays which were so well-received at our 2025 quilt show. The first special exhibit is "Wabi Sabi"; which is designed to honor our heritage member, Eileen Gudmundson, who has moved to California to live with her daughter. This exhibit will feature 20" square quilts in the Wabi Sabi Style, using Eileen's hand-dyed fabrics from her years in the guild. Information below:
The Seasonal Crayon Challenge was initiated at the July 2025 meeting. Members may choose to participate by signing up with Patti and selecting a crayon from a bag as their featured color. They then select a slip of paper from the Challenge envelope which names one of the four seasons. (Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter) Members are asked to make a small quilt that represents their selected season featuring the crayon color they chose. At least 10% of the quilt front must be in the color they chose (excluding the binding!) and the quilt may vary in size from 6 x 6 inches to 24 x 24 inches. (Perimeter of the quilt may not exceed 96 inches.) The quilts will be turned in at the January meeting in an opaque bag (secrecy!) and will be displayed at the February meetings. Members will vote for the quilt in each seasonal category that BEST represents the use of the selected crayon color. Voting will occur at both meetings, but the winners will be revealed at the day meeting on February 26th. Sign-ups will continue through November 2025. These quilts will be the guild's display again at the Gulf Coast Arts Festival in 2026.
The Four Elements Challenge was issued at the June 2023 meeting. Members may choose to participate by signing up with Patti and selecting a slip of paper from the Challenge envelope. That slip will name one of the four elements: earth, air, fire, or water. Members are to create an original quilt with the theme of their chosen element. Members are asked to try a new technique or use a new material in the composition of the quilt. The quilt may be no larger than 72 inches in perimeter. Members will turn in their completed quilt in a bag at the January meeting. The quilts will be displayed at the February meeting and members will vote for their favorite quilt in each of the Element categories. Sign-ups will continue through November 2023.
The idea for this Block of the Month started with the Hawaiian-style quilt Sandy Hill made a few years ago. Several of these designs were used in that quilt. Participants should use their own creativity and ideas to make the designs and blocks their own. The blocks are designed for the foregrounds to align at the lower corners, at the 1-inch mark, so they can be set side-by-side, sashed, laid out in a "round robin," etc. The extra palm tree blocks can be used to end a row or to set diagonally as corner blocks. We are accepting suggestions from members for the design for Block #12. Let us know what it should be.
Members are asked to make a mini-quilt to be donated to the Mini-Quilt Auction Fundraiser in November 2022.
Create a small quilt describing your version of "Home". 12in x 15in EXACTLY. Must have visible text. Put your name on the back. No sleeve required. Participants may choose to donate their quilt to Habitat for Humanity for first time home owners.
