           Sew a Bag for Yourself
& the 2025 Quilt Show Boutique!

           Don’t miss this “Bag” SOS!
Let's use fabric to carry our stuff! PQG members Allison Owens and Marilyn Danielson will help us learn to make a variety of fabric totes and bags.

Allison and PQG will provide fabric for
the All Purpose bags (shown on right) that will be
donated to the Boutique, along with batting for them.
You must bring your own fabric for the Hobo bags (shown on left); or kits will be available for purchase (fabric and extra-wide double-fold bias tape). If you donate at least one bag to the Boutique, we will waive the $10 fee for SOS. Each bag takes about one hour so you will have time to make several!
Be sure to mark your calendars and sign up soon -- space is limited to 18 so that everyone has ample sewing space. You know there's at least one bag that you want to add to your collection!  Or get a head start on holiday presents and donations to the Boutique.
       A supply list is below.

For more information, please get in touch with Judy Walker. Email: judy@speedreaders.info
Hancock Whitney Bank is on the northeast corner of Davis Highway and Creighton. Drive around the right side of the bank to the back entrance, where there's also plenty of easy parking! To get the most from the day, bring a lunch/beverages (there are lunch places close by car).

Items Required to Make Hobo Bag and All Purpose Bag!
For the Hobo bag, you will require:
1.
Double sided quilted fabric. You can purchase
pre-made double-sided quilted fabric or make your own quilted fabric.* To make the size shown at the meeting, you will need a piece of fabric 54in. x 18in. (1.5 yds x 0.5 yds). You can make any size however the ratio of length to width MUST be 3 L to 1 W.   Note: directional fabric does NOT work.  Striped fabric does.
2. About 4.5 yds of extra wide double fold bias tape (2 packages) or you can make your own.
3. A 5-in. x 6-in. piece of matching or contrast fabric for the handle.
For the All Purpose bag, you will require:
1. Two half yard pieces of coordinating fabric (18 ½ x 17 ½ inches). Some PQG fabric will be available. Makes a 12in W x 15”H x 5”D bag. Suggest putting batting between layers for a sturdier bag.**
2. 1-¼ to 1-½ yds of webbing (expensive) for handles or enough fabric and batting to make your own handles (this is what Allison used). (The two handles are 4in W x 26–28in L.)
3. Optional: A piece of cardboard or hard plastic approximately 7in. W x 9in. L for the bottom of the bag and fabric to enclose.
Other supplies:
1. Sewing machine and general sewing supplies, 6-inch ruler, rotary cutter.
2. Regular sewing foot and a walking foot or quilting foot if you plan to quilt.
3. Lunch or there are lunch restaurants nearby.
Large cutting mats and irons will be available.
There is plenty of time to make more than one bag.
We hope you will leave one of your finished bags for the 2025 Boutique!
*You can also use single-sided quilted fabric and a regular piece of quilting fabric.
** Outdoor waterproof fabric is sturdy and does not require batting.
