Presenter - Sandi Rieber

  • See Supply list below

First Session - Raw Edge Applique

  • Discover how easy it is to make a picture out of fabric scraps and fusible web. The pictures can be enhanced by adding embroidery, beads and other techniques.  The fusible web will be provided. No one needs artistic skills, just the willingness to give it a try!
  • Supply list: sewing machine to free motion quilt (a free motion foot is needed), thread (monofilament thread works well), small fabric scissors, fine point felt tip pen, fabric scraps.
Second Session - Inktense Pencils
(Pencil Kit Included in Workshop Price)

  • Inktense pencils can help a person to create hand drawn pictures and painted backgrounds or to color in specific designs on a printed fabric. First, the class will practice drawing before quilting. Then, the class will use the pencils after a picture is quilted
  • Supply list: sewing machine with the ability to free motion quilt, black thread, chalk marker or disappearing fabric pen.
  • Be sure to wear an apron or bring a paint shirt. Sometimes it can get messy!

Supply List

As you gather the supplies needed for the Fabric Art Workshop on June 24 at Hancock Bank, you can begin to think about if there is a picture that you personally would like to create during the raw edge applique part of the workshop. If not, Sandi Rieber will have line drawings available for you to use in 8-1/2” x 11” size. If you choose to bring your own, be sure to have a copy that is the exact size of your finished art quilt. Some ideas of what type of art quilt that you may want to do include landscapes, pets, flowers, still life, graphic sketches, your own drawings, and architectural drawings. Sometimes art quilt designs are chosen from an assortment of fabric scraps that inspire you. We will not have a copy machine to use. If you own a light box that you are able to bring, it will be very helpful for tracing.
